Titanium is anodised for both decorative and functional purposes. When titanium is anodised in acidic, neutral, and mildly basic solutions a very thin (0 to 200nm) nonporous, transparent oxide is produced. The oxide is transparent, but the parts have vivid rainbow-like colours due to interference colouring. Anodising in our proprietary solutions can produce coatings which can be used to prevent galling and increase corrosion resistance.
❖ to provide a decorative finish
❖ to protect metal from atmospheric corrosion
❖ to reduce the friction on sliding surfaces (i.e. to prevent galling)
❖ to provide thermal control.
